Did Dele Alli Deserve the PFA Young Player of the Year Award?

Dele Alli, a 20 year old youngster bursted onto the scene this year after arriving at Tottenham Hotspur from MK Dons. On Sunday night he accepted the Professional Footballers Association Young Player of the Year award from Spurs training ground. Although he has become the youngest player to score 10 goals in a single season some have doubted his claim to the award.

Dele Alli has played in 33 out of Spurs 35 games this season and has not failed to make an impact. He has scored 10 goals and assisted 9. Which is very impressive considering his age. Ozil, a 27 year old central attacking midfielder has similar statistics even though he is seven years older than the English International (Ozil has 6 goals and 18 assists.). Dele Alli and Mesut Ozil also come close when it comes to Pass Completion % Dele Alli with 76% pass completion and Mesut Ozil with 87%. However, Dele Alli has a temper, as he kicked Nenad Tomovic during an Europa League game against Fiorentina, and Dele Alli received a violent conduct suspension for three games after punching West Bromwich Albion’s Claudio Yacob in the stomach.

In the end Dele Alli seems the right choice for the Young Player of the Year award even if he has a temper. What do you think?

Mahrez has played in 34 of 35 of Leicester City’s games this season and has always looked dangerous on the ball. He has scored 17 goals and assisted 11. This is a major achievement when compared to other world class premier league wingers (Erik Lamela and Raheem Sterling have combined for 10 goals and 9 assists.). Not only that, but his shot accuracy has been superb with a total of 64% of his shots have gone on target.

Before the award was announced many famous players announced their picks for the award and Cesc Fabregas stated, “I’d have to go for Riyad Mahrez, he makes things happen.” In the end, Riyad Mahrez was the best for the award. Do you agree?
